Intercessory Prayer

Intercession is a prayer of petition. Jesus intercedes with his Father on our behalf, he is "able for all time to save those who draw near to God through him". The Holy Spirit too "intercedes for us...and intercedes for the saints according to the will of God." (CCC 2634)

Intercessory prayer reminds us that the Holy Spirit is the principle agent of evangelisation and it lets him do the heavy lifting. It banishes fear and allows us to place situations and people in his hands. It makes us less selfish as we step outside of our own lives to pray for others and their needs.

There are many different ways in which you can intercede for others:

• Intentions at Mass

• In Eucharistic Adoration

• Offer a decade or full Rosary for a person or their intentions

• During Liturgy of the Hours

• Intention during Divine Mercy Chaplet

• Make a spontaneous vocal prayer from the heart
