Rite of Election 2022

The Agency were delighted to be able to work, once more, with the diocesan music committee, the Cathedral and the Archbishop’s Office in bringing back the Rite of Election and Call to Continuing Conversion after its absence during the pandemic.

On 5 March 2022, just over 100 catechumens (those seeking baptism) were ‘elected’ and encouraged on their journey to the sacraments of initiation at Easter (i.e. baptism, confirmation and holy communion). Just over 100 candidates (those seeking full communion with the Catholic Church who have already been baptised) were called to continuing conversion of heart and life. These two Rites celebrated on the first Saturday of Lent, in the presence of the Archbishop, draw frequent comments from participants who note the palpable sense of joy and enthusiasm in the Cathedral. We continue to pray for all of the candidates and the elect, their catechists, godparents, sponsors and parishes.
