Kerygma

The term kerygma encompasses the essential message of the Gospel and the core teachings of the Christian faith.

Origins in the New Testament: The Kerygma derives from the New Testament Greek word κήρυγμα (kérugma), signifying “proclamation” or “preaching.” Early in the Christian church, the Kerygma denoted the core message of salvation proclaimed by apostles and early Christian leaders. It is most succinctly expressed in John 3:16.

Essential Message of the Gospel: The Kerygma encapsulates the vital message of the Gospel, centred on Jesus Christ’s life, death, and Resurrection. It underscores forgiveness of sins, the promise of eternal life, and the call to repentance and faith in Jesus Christ.

Key Elements of the Kerygma: The Kerygma incorporates crucial elements such as proclaiming God’s love and grace, acknowledging sin and the need for salvation, highlighting Jesus Christ’s central role in God’s redemption plan, and calling for repentance and faith in Him.

Importance in Evangelisation: The Kerygma holds a central place in evangelisation as it offers a concise and clear message of the Christian faith that can be readily shared. By proclaiming the Kerygma, Christians convey God’s love and grace, inviting others to enter a transformative relationship with Jesus Christ.
