A warm invitation to

Join us in Prayer

‘Go therefore and make disciples of all nations.’ Matthew 28:19

The Church is called to share the joy of the Good News with the world. You are warmly invited to join us in a simple but powerful way: through prayer. Whether whispered in silence or shared in community, prayer lifts up the Church’s mission.

On this page you will find different ways to unite in prayer with people across the Archdiocese. Let us pray, trusting the Holy Spirit to renew our parishes, our families, and our communities. Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of the faithful and enkindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and and they shall be created. And you shall renew the face of the earth. Amen.

Everyone has a part to play in building an evangelising and missionary Archdiocese, and joining together in prayer is a vital part of that mission.

Archdiocesan Prayer

God our Loving Father, pour out on us afresh the gifts of your Holy Spirit. Open our ears to hear your Word, open our eyes to see your presence, open our minds to understand your Wisdom and open our hearts to be more available for your mission so that strengthened by your grace we can truly be a sign and instrument of your presence in our world today. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Star of the New Evangelisation

Mary, Mother of Jesus and of us all, Star of the New Evangelisation, pray that we might be filled with the Joy of the Gospel and bear Christ to the world through our lives. Amen. Alleluia!

The Rosary for Evangelisation

A special booklet created to encourage prayer for evangelisation across the Archdiocese of Southwark.

The Rosary for Evangelisation booklet can be used in many ways—whether in personal prayer, with a friend, as a family at home, or in group settings such as parish prayer gatherings. It is also a valuable resource to share with others: consider offering a copy to the housebound, those in nursing homes, or anyone receiving Holy Communion at home.

It can be a source of comfort for the sick and elderly, and a thoughtful gift for adults preparing to enter the Church. You might also give it to members of your parish who are involved in ministry or outreach, or simply leave a few copies in your church for others to find.

This booklet - The Rosary for Evangelisation - is a simple, yet profound invitation to pray the Rosary intentionally with me for the mission of the Church in our Archdiocese. You’ll find reflections for the four sets of mysteries – of joy, of light, of sorrow, and of glory - from four priests of our Archdiocese. These will help us think about, and pray for, evangelisation. You will also find beautiful images for each decade of the Rosary to help you enter into prayer.

As you pick up this booklet and your Rosary, I invite you to pray for your family, friends, and neighbours; for your parish and local community. Pray that the love and hope of the Lord Jesus will fill our churches, schools, homes, shops, streets, and stations; our villages, towns, and boroughs, the quiet corners and busy centres of our Archdiocese.

Let this Rosary for Evangelisation be a spiritual gift. As the beads pass through your fingers, let your heart unite with Mary’s as she guides you to her Son. As the mysteries prayerfully unfold, let the fire of mission be enkindled in your soul and across our land.

I pray that this booklet, and your Rosary, will guide you, through the heart and eyes of Mary, to the heart of the Lord Jesus. May our prayer together become a powerful seed of evangelisation here in our Archdiocese.

The Joyful Mysteries

SIGN OF THE CROSS

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen

THE APOSTLES’ CREED

I Believe in God, the Father Almighty Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried; he descended into hell; on the third day he arose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from there he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

OUR FATHER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

3 x HAIL MARY

Hail, Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now, and at the hour of our death. Amen.

GLORY BE

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

First Joyful Mystery - The Annunciation

Perhaps, the greatest lesson we must learn from our mother Mary is her obedience to the will of God. Mary readily embraces God’s divine plan despite the fact that she did not fully grasp it.

The secret of Mary's success was her deep faith and her pure love for God. We cannot be devotees of the Holy Rosary without learning this lesson. To fulfil the demands

of our calling as missionary disciples we must learn from Mary never to say no to God's plan.

Prayer Intention

May we be granted the grace to always be open to God’s will. Let us pray that more people across our Archdiocese will say yes to Jesus’ invitation to relationship.
