The Way of Beauty
On Friday 13 March, the Agency hosted a day of formation and catechesis on The Way of Beauty: The Evangelising Power of the Arts in Education and Catechesis with Dr Jem Sullivan at Amigo Hall, St George’s Cathedral.
Since Vatican II, the Church has invited educators and catechists to consider the ‘way of beauty,’ the via pulchritudinis, as a path that can lead to a graced encounter with God. Three dozen teachers and catechists enjoyed a day of fellowship and blended activities with the highlight being Dr Sullivan’s exploration of the importance and power of art, music and literature in education.
In the morning, participants were lead through a lectio divina on a creation passage from the book of Genesis and a talk on the place of art in our parishes. This was followed by a catechetical tour of St George’s Cathedral using a trio of fresh resources produced expressly for this event.
